Victoria Culbertson Ordained to the Transitional Diaconate
Victoria Culbertson was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons by Bishop Ruth Woodliff-Stanley on Tuesday, September 1, at Christ Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant. Watch the service online at this link. The Rev. Furman Buchanan, rector of Christ Church, served as preacher.
Her presenters were Rev. Buchanan; the Rev. Courtney Davis-Shoemaker (priest-in-charge of St. Peter’s, Charleston); the Rev. Deacon Judith Ewing (her mother); Dick Kelly, Cindi Haviland, and Emily Cooper. She is a transitional deacon, meaning she will continue on a path to ordination to the priesthood.
Deacon Victoria currently serves in a dual ministry role at St. Peter’s, Charleston (West Ashley), while also providing part-time support to the Office of the Bishop, particularly the ministries of the canons for common mission and congregational vitality.
Originally from England, she moved to South Carolina with her family at the age of nine. She was baptized in the Church of England before becoming part of Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville, where through youth ministry, she encountered Christ in a transformative way, developing a lifelong commitment to discipleship, servant leadership, and helping others grow in faith.
