Opportunities to learn, serve and grow
The people of The Diocese of South Carolina are blessed to be part of a wider family: The Episcopal Church (110 diocese in 16 nations), which in turn is part of the Anglican Communion, with more than 80 million members in 44 regional and national member churches in more than 160 countries.
These family ties provide a multitude of opportunities and resources to the people of this diocese. This page is offered as a very partial list of some opportunities to explore these connections with the wider Church.
The Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church welcomes all who worship Jesus Christ and comprises 106 dioceses and one mission area across 22 countries or territories. While The Episcopal Church is headquartered in New York City, we are not a national church—we are a multinational denomination.
As the only U.S.-based member of the worldwide Anglican Communion, The Episcopal Church is part of the world’s third-largest group of Christians and currently has more than 1.5 million members.
General Convention

The General Convention is the governing body of The Episcopal Church. Every three years it meets as a bicameral legislature that includes the House of Deputies and the House of Bishops, composed of deputies and bishops from each diocese. The 82nd General Convention is scheduled to meet in Phoenix, Arizona from July 3 – 8, 2027.
Province IV

Province IV, also known as the Province of Sewanee, is the largest of the Provinces in The Episcopal Church. Twenty dioceses in nine Southeastern states comprise Province IV, which is named for our seminary, the School of Theology of the University of the South, located in Sewanee, Tenn.
The Anglican Communion

The Anglican Communion is an association of Anglican churches that are in full communion with the Church of England, and specifically with the Archbishop of Canterbury. It is the third largest Christian communion in the world.
The Episcopal Church, and by extension the Diocese of South Carolina, are members of the Anglican Communion.

Episcopal Church Women

Since 1871, the National Episcopal Church Women, ECW, have championed women’s rights and the Christian foundation of God and family. They are a ministry of the Episcopal Church and celebrate that Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Their women’s ministry and children’s programs feed, educate, and provide community grants around the world.
Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross
Founded in 1884, the Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross is a group of women, known as Companions, committed to intercessory prayer and thanksgiving, spiritual growth and simplicity of life.
Together we support God’s mission in the world through work for social justice, for peace and unity and for environmental responsibility. Our call is for transformation and reconciliation within ourselves, our Companionship, our faith communities and all creation.
Order of Saint Helena
The mission of the Order of Saint Helena is to show forth the love of Christ through a monastic life of prayer, hospitality, and service. We are lay and ordained women living communally under a vow of monastic poverty, celibate chastity, and obedience to God. From Benedictine roots, we discern new ways to interpret traditional monasticism, as we strive to grow in diversity and inclusivity.
