Special Event with Canon Stephanie Spellers on Jan. 29

If you attended our 232nd Diocesan Convention in 2022, you undoubtedly remember the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers, who brought her energy and experience to share with us throughout the course of the event (pictured above in 2022). She was a dynamic and memorable speaker (who also sang a little for us while preaching at the Convention Eucharist at Grace Church Cathedral). And if you missed that experience, you have another opportunity to learn from her in less than two weeks!
Canon Spellers will be joined by Bishop Ruth Woodliff-Stanley at the historic Calvary Episcopal Church in Charleston on January 29, 2026, to talk about her new book, Church Tomorrow? What the ‘Nones’ and ‘Dones’ Teach Us About the Future of Faith. This free event will be held from 6:30-8 pm. RSVP at this link. Parking for the event is available behind the church, accessed from Ashe Street (Calvary is located at 106 Line Street in downtown Charleston).
Canon Spellers currently serves as canon in residence at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in New York, but recently completed nearly a decade as canon to Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.
Canon Spellers’ new book wrestles with the decline of traditional religion and the witness of nonreligious Millennials and Gen Zs. Spellers has traveled America to ask young ‘Nones’ and ‘Dones’: Why are they saying “no” to church? Where are they experiencing the sacred and belonging? What would they tell churches? And where do we go from here? If you’re wondering about the future of Christian community, come join the conversation on January 29.
