Clergy News: The Rev. Roy Tripp Called to Messiah, Myrtle Beach

With the complete support of Bishop Ruth Woodliff-Stanley, Messiah, Myrtle Beach has called the Rev. Roy Tripp to serve as their next priest-in-charge.

The Reverend Roy Tripp - Messiah, Myrtle Beach - Priest-in-charge

Father Roy retired last year as rector of St. Mark’s, Port Royal (a full-time position) but was ready to serve in a part-time opportunity. In his letter to the congregation shared with the announcement (which can be viewed in its entirety at this link), Father Roy said the following: “I come to you with a deep love for parish ministry: worship that is reverent and alive, pastoral care that is personal and faithful, and a church that knows its neighbors by name. Alongside this, I bring an entrepreneurial approach to spirituality—one that is creative, adaptive, and attentive to how the Holy Spirit is already at work beyond our walls. In a storefront setting especially, I see opportunity: to experiment, to listen closely, and to grow organically as a community shaped by prayer, hospitality, and mission.”

Father Roy will succeed the Rev. John Sorensen who began serving the congregation in 2022. He will begin his time with the congregation on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
