Bishop Calls Youth ‘Rector’ for Happening #9 in 2027
As the Happening Experience continues to live and grow in our diocese, the sense of enthusiasm and energy among the next generation of church leadership is still high. Bishop Ruth Woodliff-Stanley has seen this vitality in action when she served on staff of Happening #7 and Happening #8 at St. Christopher Camp & Conference Center over the past two years.
With a commitment to the continued growth and success of this integral youth ministry, Bishop Ruth has called Murphy Dutrow (pictured here with her dad), a member of Grace Church Cathedral, Charleston, to serve as the rector for Happening #9 in 2027. “I’ve had the gift of working alongside Murphy during our Happening retreats and have seen first-hand her excellent leadership skills,” said Bishop Ruth. “Murphy is a keen observer, a natural pastor, and an insightful leader. She will help us continue to build a strong Happening program. I’m delighted she has accepted my invitation to serve as rector for Happening #9.”

Murphy was asked to serve as “observing rector” at the last Happening, where she showed her leadership and dedication to the team. “Both Addy Lanz, the previous rector, and I, have seen impressive leadership and an innate desire to serve in Murphy over the past two years,” said the Rev. Dr. Brooks Boylan, the director of our diocese’s Happening ministry. “We are blessed to have such a warm spirit to lead this year’s team.”
Leadership is beginning to build the staff for Happening #9 next year. The staff application is now open. High school aged youth, who have already served at a Happening Weekend, should apply at the following link. The application for those wanting to attend Happening #9 weekend will be available in the Fall.
