SC Supreme Court Denies Writ of Prohibition

On Tuesday, March 31, the South Carolina Supreme Court issued an order in response to the Writ of Prohibition filed by the Episcopal Church in South Carolina (the Diocese of South Carolina) on February 21. In the brief order, the SC Supreme Court denied the petition.

In response to the order, Chancellor Thomas S. Tisdale, Jr. said: “We are hopeful that this will clear the way forward and lead to a decision soon from Judge Dickson so that we can move more quickly to the enforcement of the Supreme Court judgement.”

The South Carolina Supreme Court issued a majority decision in August 2017 to return the diocesan property and 29 parishes to the Episcopal parties. In November 2017, that decision was remitted to Judge Dickson to be executed.
