March 8, 2026: St. James, Charleston Visitation

Bishop Ruth Woodliff-Stanley visited St. James, Charleston (on James Island) on March 8, 2026. She preached, celebrated the Holy Eucharist, and confirmed and received new members. It was also announced late last week that the Rev. Will Berry has been called as their next rector.

During her visitation on Sunday, Bishop Ruth Woodliff-Stanley dedicated altar rail cushions that were lovingly needpointed over the past two years by a group of talented women across multiple congregations. The effort was led by Virginia Donehue, a member of Grace Church Cathedral, who worked with members of the Charleston congregations of St. James, St. Stephen’s, and Grace Church Cathedral, along with a few residents of Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community (located across the street from St. James). On Sunday, the women were in attendance to present the cushions for the bishop to bless them. Many thanks to: Virginia Donehue, Suzanne Richardson, Davis Donehue, Cornelia Pelzer, Anne Barnes, Nancy Rees, Barbara Pace, Patty Rosenberg, Lloyd Scott, Aubra Wilson, Rachel Lindsay, Shanna Sullivan, and Kathy Bates!
