“Ponder Anew”

The Annual Convention of The Diocese of South Carolina was hosted by the West Charleston Deanery at the North Charleston Marriott on November 15-16, 2019. The theme was “Ponder Anew.”

​We were delighted to have the Right Reverend Todd Ousley with us for Convention this year. In his role as the Bishop for Pastoral Development, Bishop Ousley provides direct support to the Presiding Bishop and the House of Bishops in the areas of episcopal transitions, intake for disciplinary matters involving bishops, and pastoral care of bishops, their families and diocesan systems. He also provides resources for re-deployment of bishops and explorations of creative diocesan collaborations.

Bishop Ousley talked openly with convention guests about the process of bishop transition and addressed questions and concerns shared during his session on Friday afternoon. He also preached at the Convention Eucharist on Saturday morning.

Report from the Standing Committee

The Rev. Jeff Richardson, (outgoing) President of the Standing Committee, had the following report to share at Diocesan Convention regarding the continuing search for a Provisional Bishop:

“I can tell you the we have an ongoing discussion and negotiation with a potential provisional bishop. Currently, there is no firm agreement, which would be necessary, in order to be able to announce anything at this point.  Until this process is complete, things are generally up in the air.  The Chancellor and the Standing Committee intend to continue this discussion in the very near future.”
