Clergy News: The Reverend Chris Huff, 1956-2026

It is with great sadness that we share the news that the Reverend Chris Huff, a beloved child of God and son of our diocese, died Wednesday morning, March 4, 2026.
Bishop Ruth Woodliff-Stanley joins the people of the diocese in grieving his death and remembering him fondly. “From my very first meeting of Father Chris, his love of Jesus, of this diocese, and of the congregations he has served shone through his words and his actions,” said Bishop Ruth. “A gifted and wise priest, a devoted and loving husband and spouse, and a true friend to so many has now risen in glory. I hold his beloved family in my prayers, and I give thanks for his ministry among us.”
Ordained to the priesthood in 1989, Father Chris faithfully served his entire ministry within the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina. He retired from active ministry in 2022 after serving as rector of St. George’s, Summerville for 12 years. He continued serving in retirement, most recently as priest associate for St. John’s, Johns Island.
Additionally, earlier in his ministry, Father Chris led the congregations of St. Paul’s, Bennettsville; and he strengthened the presence of The Episcopal Church in the West Ashley area of Charleston, leading St. Peter’s (which became Good Shepherd, and now has returned to the name of St. Peter’s) and planting West Shore Church. He served the entire diocese in a number of roles including as the dean of the West Charleston Deanery and on the Diocesan Finance Committee, Standing Committee, and Diocesan Council, as well as numerous convention committees.
Please keep his beloved wife Kim, their children, and grandchildren, as well as all who loved and knew Chris, in your prayers. Service arrangements will be announced as soon as details are finalized.
O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day our brother Chris. We thank you for giving him to us, his family and friends, to know and to love as a companion on our earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer)
Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord; let light perpetual shine upon him.
